Walmart won't write 'gay' on surprise prom cake for viral promposal teen couple - TomoNews

In a heartwarming, faith-in-humanity-restored moment, gay high school senior Anthony Martinez was asked to prom by his straight best friend, Jacob Lescenski, after asking for a date on Twitter.

The story of the promposal couple went viral, however, Walmart poured a big bucket of cold water on Martinez's jubilee.

Jennifer Sandoval, aunt of Martinez, wanted to surprise the couple with a cake to celebrate her nephew's big night. She wanted to have the phrase "'You're gay, he's straight, you're going to prom, you couldn't have had a better date" on the cake, but was told by a Walmart employee that they can't put the word "gay" on the cake.

Sandoval was perplexed by the refusal and was told the same thing again by the manager. She eventually settled with "You matter - Prom Kings" on the cake.

Walmart has since tried to distance themselves from the incident, saying that nowhere in their store's policy does it say the word "gay"cannot be written on a cake.

Fortunately, the boys loved the cake, and this incident did not dampen the pair's prom experience on May 2. They even took to the dancefloor during the couples part of the night.
