Dauphin Island regatta tragedy: Deadly storm leaves five missing and at least two dead - TomoNews

A storm blew into a regatta in Alabama on Saturday, capsizing several boats and leaving multiple people in the water and at least two dead.
More than 100 sailboats and around 200 people were competing in the annual Dauphin Island regatta in Mobile Bay over the weekend when the severe thunderstorm hit.
The storm blew in from the west, passing by Louisiana. The impending storm prompted a severe thunderstorm watch starting at around 1:30 p.m. As the storm blew through Mobile Bay at around 4 p.m., several of the sailboats capsized amid heavy rains, lightning and strong waves.
The Coast Guard continued the search for five people reported missing throughout Sunday. Two bodies have been recovered so far, one of them a seventeen-year-old boy.
The Coast Guard has said it will investigate the weather conditions at the time of the regatta as well as the decision to continue with the event.
