Clashes in Haiti as anti-government protest turns violent

STORY: Thousands of anti-government protesters descended on the Haitian capital, Port-au-Prince, on Tuesday (December 16) as political forces jockeyed to fill the void left following the resignation of Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe over the weekend.
Clashes broke out between police and some protesters in downtown Port-au-Prince, with police using tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse the crowds.
It was not possible to verify the number of protesters injured in the clashes but at least one suffered wounds to his legs from rubber bullets, according to a Reuters witness.
The western hemisphere's poorest country is still recovering from an earthquake five years ago that leveled much of its capital. In recent weeks, demonstrators in many cities have accused the government of corruption, demanding the resignation of Lamothe and President Michel Martelly.
A replacement for Lamothe is due to be named by Wednesday (December 17),
