Greek protest march turns into clashes

Greek protesters in Athens vent their frustration.

Thousands take to the streets to mark the anniversary of a 2008 police shooting that left a 15-year-old boy dead.

The shooting had led to the worst riots in Greece in decades.

Some 8,000 police were deployed on Saturday ... hoping to avert the street violence that has followed previous protest marches.

But it wasn't meant to be.

It had started peacefully enough.

Protesters marched through the streets of Athens, saying the young generation is simply fed up with the system.

This man says the state is trying to "kill an entire generation'.

Protesters were also showing their support for a jailed, young anarchist who's demanding access to university classes.

But the unrest really reflects a wider climate of discontent.

Economic austerity measures have already peaked public anger, as families struggle with joblessness, poverty and taxes.
