Iraqi peshmerga fighters approach Kobani, ready for battle

A warm welcome for reinforcements in the battle against Islamic State.

A convoy of Iraqi peshmerga fighters is weaving its way through eastern Turkey towards the beseiged Syrian border town of Kobani to help fellow Kurds fight the militants, whose objective is to sieze the town for themselves.

Carrying truck-loads of heavy weapons, the Iraqi fighters crossed into Turkey on Wednesday morning and will soon arrive in Kobani.

--- where, Syrian Kurds and their international allies hope their involvement in the fight will break the Islamic State seige that has, so far, defied U.S.-led airstrikes.
