Iraqi Peshmerga battles for funds from Baghdad - 02 May 09

They were once a Kurdish armed group but have since grown into a well-trained army of nearly 200,000.

As the security force of northern Iraq, the Peshmerga owe their allegiance to the Kurdish Regional Government (KRG), which pays for them.

But tensions are growing with Baghdad now that the KRG is asking the central government to cover its costs.
