STORY: Clashes erupted in three cities in the occupied West Bank on Friday (August 22) during demonstrations held against Israel's prolonged military offensive in the Gaza Strip.

In the West Bank city of Hebron, hundreds of demonstrators marched after prayers on the city's main street waving Hamas flags and posters of Hamas militants.

They were met with Palestinian security forces and riot police. Demonstrators hurled rocks while police fired tear gas canisters and stun grenades.

In Bethlehem, dozens of Palestinian stone-hurling youths clashed with Israeli soldiers near the main checkpoint into the city. Soldiers fired tear gas canisters and sprayed protesters with "skunk", a foul-smelling liquid used to disperse demonstrations.

In Ramallah, dozens marched on the main street of the city also waving flags and posters of Hamas militants killed in Israeli air strikes in Gaza.
