The body of Major General Harold Greene returns home to the U.S.

Soldiers carried a flag-draped case containing the remains of the two-star general killed in an insider attack in Afghanistan.

His wife and children were there at Dover Air Force Base to see him home.

Greene's father says his son was a popular soldier whose intellect led to his military success.

SOUNDBITE: VOICE OF MAJOR GENERAL HAROLD GREENE'S FATHER, SAYING:

"One of the consistent notes he got on all his evaluations over the years was that he made people under him better."

Greene is the highest ranking U.S. officer killed in combat since Vietnam.

Officials say an Afghan soldier shot and killed the 34-year Army veteran as he was visiting a military complex in Afghanistan.

Greene will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
