God of grace and God of glory - Chris Lawton at St Michael's Catholic Church, Pillgwenlly, Newport

Me playing the organ at St Michael's Catholic Church in the Pillgwenlly suburb of Newport, Wales.

The organ - job number A351 - was built in 1936 by the John Compton Organ Company Ltd and consists of 6 ranks of pipes fully enclosed in the rear gallery of the church. The detached stopkey console was also originally installed on the rear gallery but has been relocated at the front of the church on the right hand side. In 1979 the organ was overhauled by E Cawston which included some tonal modifications and the original action replaced by solid state. The specification reads:

For this first video I am playing the hymn 'God of grace and God of glory' to the Welsh hymn tune 'Rhuddlan' which shows off the power of this instrument.
