A Seattle man, Richard Swanson was tragically killed while walking for charity. He initially planned on venturing roughly 10,000 miles, over the course of one year, from Washington to Brazil, by strolling and dribbling a soccer ball. Only two weeks into his scheduled journey, everything came to an end.

While walking south on the shoulder of U.S. 101 in Lincoln City, Swanson was hit by a passing motorist in a pick-up truck. Not long before his untimely death, he posted a video on YouTube, expressing his happiness and excitement towards hiking alongside the ocean.

Swanson’s goal was to reach Brazil for the 2014 World Cup, all while raising funds for the One World Futbol Project.

Earlier this year, a 23-year-old man died from a suspected heart attack while running at the Brighton Marathon in the United Kingdom. He has taken part in the 26-mile trek to raise money for the charity known as Arms Around the Child, which helps kids with HIV.

To the utter shock of family and friends, the male who was thought-to-be completely healthy collapsed at the 16 mile mark and passed away
