Critics: Pope John Paul II Statue Looks Like Mussolini

The revised Pope John Paul II statue in Rome draws critics who say it likes like Mussolini.
Statues made in dedication to important members of the past are usually beautiful. However, the initial statue of Pope John Paul II erected in Rome last year didn’t go over well with the public.
Many people considered it to resemble Benito Mussolini. The Pope seems to be sporting an angry, stern look.
Due to the negative feedback, it was recently unveiled as a revamped version. The sculptor claimed that the new form matches his first visions and the workers were responsible for a poorly executed assemblage the first time.
Now he appears to be smiling. Although the revised effort went over well with some residents, including the mayor of Rome, there’s still a fair share of critics.
A Rome council member stated “It looks even more like Mussolini. To celebrate the memory of a great pope we could have done a lot better.” Another statue recently stirred controversy.
A beautiful monument was unveiled at Oklahoma's Capitol building, featuring the Ten Commandments. However two commandments featured misspellings.
The State Representative, Mike Ritze reportedly paid $10,000 for the 6-foot tall monument. Ritze states “it will be fixed quite easily”, but city officials were unhappy about the spelling errors.
