Pope Francis has confirmed a date for two of his predecessors to be declared saints: April 27, 2014.

Pope John Paul II (1978-2005), who symbolised a more globalised Catholic Church who witnessed the fall of communism, will be canonised only nine years after his death.

Pope John XXIII (1958-1963) oversaw sweeping reforms to modernise the Church.
