Fireworks --- as thousands of Kurds clash with Turkish police. Protesters hurled explosives and stones at armored vehicles the police dispatched to try and break up demonstrators in the southern part of the country.

Authorities also used tear gas and water cannons.

The unrest was sparked after policed refused to allow Kurds, who are a minority in the country, to hold a rally for the PKK, a militant group who want to be able to rule themselves.
