Soccer fans flying to Ukraine for the Euro 2012 final were optimistic Spain could overcome a surprising challenge from Italy.

"I am so excited! Because we are not only going to watch Spain play, we are going to see them win."

About 20,000 are expected to travel from Italy and Spain for the match.

(SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) "LA ROJA" FAN, LORENZO, SAYING:

"We are not that nervous yet. We expect a great match and that Spain wins, but let's see what happens and if we can celebrate it."

Meanwhile their team took in Kiev's World War Two museum and went for a stroll Sunday.

But their final match won't be a walk in the park.

Italy upset Germany in the semi-finals with dynamic play, and Spain will have to fend the Italians off if they want to make history.

Spain could become the first team to win three consecutive major titles.

For many, Euro 2012 is a welcome distraction from the economic crises across the continent.
