In Adelaide, Australia overcame a poor start when they slipped to 84 for three to close on 335 for three. Excellent unbeaten centuries from Ricky Ponting and Michael Clarke put them in the ascendency as India continued to struggle.
Meanwhile, in Sri Lanka, Tillakaratne Dilshan has resigned as captain and been replaced for the Commonwealth Bank ODI series in Australia by Mahela Jayawardene. Jayawardene captained Sri Lanka to the final of the 2007 World Cup and will have Angelo Mathews as his vice-captain.
