This is the team of the Russian yacht Peter I.

After the world-wide voyage, these yachtsmen prepare for the winter and ready the yacht for storage.

The brave crew had to overcome many obstacles.

[Daniel Gavrilov, Captain of the Yacht "Peter I"]:
"We have seen a lot of extremes. It was overwhelming to lose control of the yacht when there was a lot of ice around you. Well, plus there were storms and emergency visits to the polar stations".

Sponsors for such a young team were not easy to come by. Nobody really believed that the team would be able to set any records. But they scraped by, with the main sail sewn on the last of their money.

[Daniel Gavrilov, Captain, "Peter I" Yacht]:
"And the rest of the sails are all 18 years old. I would certainly not go with the old sails any more because we were mending them every day and there were sails everywhere in a mess."

[...]

[Sergei Smirnov, Third Mate]:
"At first it was difficult. We were sailing blindly, relying on instruments. You could not see anything five meters away. We hung the flag on the side of the board to see which way the wind was blowing."

Despite the dangers, the sailors have many good experiences: They have conquered the ice of Taimyr. And even hail and storms could not overshadow the severe beauty of the Atlantic. Each team member was able to learn two to three new skills during 109 difficult days.

[Sergei Murzaev, Photographer]:
"On board I was steering and raising the sails, but always with my camera, I am keeping a stick in my hand, pushing the ice away, and the camera is hanging on my chest."

In this campaign the team not only demonstrated the possibility of sailing around the Arctic Ocean, but also assumed the role of researchers.

Next year the sailors will once again conquer the Arctic. Team "Peter 1" will soon take up the organization of the race for 10-20 boats.
