Actor and TV presenter Danny Dyer has denied advising a reader of Zoo magazine to cut his ex's face in his regular agony uncle column.

The response to Alex from Manchester's letter was published in the magazine in the "Ask Danny!" feature.

Suggestions to Alex for getting over his ex-girlfriend included, "going out on a rampage with the boys, getting on the booze and smashing anything that moves."

The column ended with: "Of course, the other option is to cut your ex's face, and then no one will want her."

Dyer claims he was misquoted in the piece saying: "This is not the advice I would give any member of the public. I do not condone violence against women".

Following angry reactions to the column on Twitter and from several domestic violence charities, Zoo magazine has issued an apology for the "inappropriate and indefensible response to a letter", blaming an "extremely regrettable production error".
