Hamas: The ceasefire agreement in Gaza now depends on Israel

  • yesterday
The situation in Gaza is increasingly tense as responsibility for the ceasefire agreement now lies with Israel, according to the latest statement from Hamas. The Palestinian militant group has revealed that their delegation has left Cairo for Doha following their perception that Israel rejected the ceasefire proposal put forward by mediators.

The AFP news agency reported that “the negotiating delegation left Cairo for Doha. "In practice, the occupier (Israel) rejected the proposals put forward by the mediators and agreed to agreements on several key issues," Hamas said in a statement.

Egyptian media outlet Al-Qahera News reported that representatives from both sides had left Cairo after two days of negotiations whose aim was to reach a ceasefire agreement during the seven-month war. The top Egyptian official, who was not named, stated that efforts made by Egypt together with other mediators from Qatar and the United States have continued to try to approach the views of both conflicting parties.

A large number of Palestinians have taken refuge in Rafah, as it is reported that more than a million people have fled there since the start of the conflict. Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated that the proposed ceasefire falls far short of Israel's essential demands. Even so, his government will still send negotiators to Cairo.

This situation developed amid increasing international pressure on Israel not to continue attacks in this densely populated area. On the other hand, the United States has taken significant steps by limiting arms supplies to Israel in response to increased military operations in Rafah, followed by permitting high-altitude ammunition shipments.
