Solomon Islands Selects Former Foreign Minister as New Leader

The Solomon Islands' parliament has elected former foreign minister Jeremiah Manele as the Pacific island nation's new leader. Manele, who comes from the same party as the previous prime minister, Manasseh Sogavare, is expected to continue his predecessor's close relationship with China. Under Sogavare, the Solomon Islands cut ties with Taiwan in 2019.
