UN chief urges Japan transparency in nuclear discharges

The head of the United Nations (UN) atomic agency, Rafael Grossi, stresses to the Japanese government the need for transparency in the ongoing release of treated radioactive wastewater from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant. He also expressed support for Japan's efforts to boost its nuclear capacity as a stable and clean energy source during his first visit since the treated water releases began in August, coinciding with the 13th anniversary of the Fukushima disaster triggered by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.
