Emilio Alcobinga's Fatal Crash @ San Luis 2008

While running at about 200 km/h during a race of the TC Pista, the Turismo Carretera feeder series, held at the "Autódromo Rosendo Hernández" in San Luis, Argentina, the Ford Falcon driven by Gabriel Zughella suddenly lost the left rear wheel. The wheel travelled several meters along the track, crunched the fence ending into a group of spectators in the grandstand at the Curva 2. One of them, Emilio Alcobinga aged 40 from Godoy Cruz, Mendoza, was hit and b killed on the spot. Four other people who were watching the race alongside Alcobinga at some 70 meters from the race track, were also injured, including Leonardo Tarquine also from Mendoza province, who sustained spinal trauma, being transferred to the Hospital Complejo Sanitario San Luis, in critical condition.

After the accident the race was immediately stopped and about one hour and a half later it re-started again.

Different accounts reported the name of the unfortunate spectator as Emilio Arcobinga, this has noy yet been confirmed.
