On January 10, Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar ruled that the faction led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde is the "real" Shiv Sena. This comes as a major setback for Uddhav Thackeray. Narwekar said that the MLAs of Shinde’s camp cannot be disqualified. The Speaker dismissed all the 34 petitions filed by both the sides seeking disqualification of 54 MLAs.
