Xi visits Vietnam to boost 'partnership'

Chinese President Xi Jinping visits Vietnam to strengthen ties with that country, announcing a commitment to forge a ‘China-Vietnam community with a shared future of strategic significance’ during a meeting with Vietnam's Communist Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. This move follows Vietnam's recent elevation of diplomatic relations with the United States and Japan to the level of ‘comprehensive strategic partners,’ which China also seeks, given its historical alliance with Vietnam.
