"No License Plate"/Misread License Plate - February 15, 2023
  • 5 months ago
On the night of February 15th, 2023, a Caldwell Parish, Louisiana sheriff's deputy "accidentally" misread one digit of a motorist's license plate. Naturally the misread plate returned to something different, giving Hatten grounds to stop the vehicle. He didn't call in that he was stopping it, but he did stop it, and shortly called 10-8 off of the stop.

While that deputy had that vehicle stopped, another deputy stopped another vehicle for "no license plate." We don't know whether the vehicle had a temp tag (like in 98% of the "no plate" stops) or legitimately didn't have a plate at all, because the deputy never specified. He went 10-8 off of that stop very quickly, so we can reasonably assume the vehicle was legal.

This was amid a night full of deputies preying on, following, and stopping lots of random motorists. Sheriff Clay Bennett calls it "highway drug interdiction," but to me it sounds more like predatory policing. These deputies must've been trained by the soon-to-be-infamous Street Cop Training that encourages cops to violate citizens rights and the US Constitution...
