"No License Plate" Stop and Arrest - February 4, 2023

On the cold morning of February 4th, 2023, a Caldwell Parish Sheriff's Office deputy stopped a motorist in a dually pickup truck for "no license plate displayed." As he would reveal a few minutes into the stop, the truck did in fact have a license plate. The plate had expired in 2022, however, and it was determined that the driver had a suspended driver's license.

Consent was given to search the vehicle and deputies allegedly found drugs. The driver was arrested and booked on charges of no license plate displayed, driving under suspension, and possession of sch. 2 CDS.

Bear in mind that these deputies do have a known history of pretending to not be able to see the temp tag in the back glass of random cars, pretending they can't read the plate whatsoever when the truck has a trailer ball on the bumper, pretending some random car of a completely different make/model/color/bodystyle/etc. matches the description of a suspect vehicle, "accidentally" misreading license plate numbers, etc. all to "justify" traffic stops that they don't have legitimate legal grounds to conduct in the first place. With all that in mind, do you believe the person legitimately didn't have a license plate? I don't.
