Michigan Congresswoman Censured for Controversial Israel-Hamas Remarks

The US House of Representatives voted 234 to 188 to censure Democratic Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib over comments she made regarding the recent Israel-Hamas war. Tlaib, who is the only Palestinian American in Congress, had condemned both Hamas's attacks on Israel which killed over 1,400 people, as well as the Israeli response, which has led to over 10,000 Palestinian deaths. Tlaib defended her position, saying her criticism was directed at the Israeli government and Prime Minister Netanyahu and that criticizing the government of Israel is not inherently anti-Semitic. The censure punishment is one step below expulsion.
