Glasgow headlines 6 November: Police issue statement after multiple Bonfires Night incidents
  • 6 months ago
Officers and fire crews responded to reports of groups of youths fighting and throwing fireworks at each other on Bonfires Night in Barmulloch.

Police Scotland has issued a statement concerning multiple incidents throughout the country, saying this type of behaviour is an “unacceptable and frankly disgusting level of disorder that left communities alarmed and police officers injured.”

Next up, pubs and bars in Glasgow city centre will be able to stay open until 1am as the council has approved a year long trial in an attempt to boost the night time economy.

Currently, these venues are required to close at midnight, however, the council said the pilot scheme would give an indication if there is a market for the extra hour.

Transport providers within the city centre have not supported the extension though and will not be altering services to meet the new demand at this stage.

And in other news, Britain’s loneliest sheep Fiona has lost her chance to live in an animal sanctuary near Glasgow after the Scottish SPCA advised she would find interactions distressing.

Fiona spent two years alone at the foot of a cliff in the Highlands before a recent rescue operation by local farmers took place.
