Glasgow headlines 25 October: Schools in the city set to close as staff take strike action
  • 6 months ago
Schools and Nurseries across the city will be closing on Wednesday 1 November as staff participate in industrial action concerning pay.

Members of Unison will be walking out for the first part of a rolling programme of strikes, after voting overwhelmingly to reject Cosla’s latest pay offer.

This includes classroom assistants, janitors, canteen workers and cleaners.

Next up, Glasgow City Council have revealed designs for the redevelopment of George Square.

They are now set to be submitted into an official planning application allowing locals to have their say.

New features include sensory gardens, rain gardens, a water feature, sheltered seating and contemporary art installations.

And finally, Glasgow’s food scene is about to receive a new addition as the Caribbean restaurant chain Turtle Bay has announced its first Scottish opening.

The venue is set to open before the end of the year, bringing 60 new jobs to the city centre.
