FBI Reports Murder Rates in the US See 6% Drop in 2022

The number of murders in the United States dropped just over 6 percent in 2022 compared with 2021 according to the FBI. Experts also say preliminary data for 2023 indicates that the decline has accelerated this year. Firearms were used in almost half a million violent crimes across the country in 2022 Property crimes increased overall by 7.1 percent in 2022, driven by a continuing rise in auto thefts which reached nearly one million vehicles stolen. Carjackings also increased by 8 percent according to the FBI data.
