'Didn't sink in' Prince Charles left facing major disaster as prop he demanded fell apart

Prince Charles specifically requested a new golden coronet to be created for his Prince of Wales investiture ceremony on July 1, 1969. David R Mason, a chemical engineer involved with the creation of the coronet, claimed that the wax coronet shattered into pieces after a first strong tap by goldsmith Louis Osman.
