Hawaiian Electric is being sued by Maui County for possibly causing the Maui Fires in Hawaii. The utility claims that power lines knocked down by strong winds likely started the first fire, but electricity was off when a second fire occurred. Hawaiian Electric's stock has risen by more than 40% following the lawsuit filing. The county is considering legal action against the company after a brush fire spread near a school and another fire in the same area was witnessed by a Hawaiian Electric crew.
