Trump Pleads Not Guilty

Former President Donald Trump pleaded not guilty to charges accusing him of conspiring to overturn the results of the 2020 election, making him the 1,078th person to face federal charges related to the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot. The charges against Trump do not include criminal incitement or seditious conspiracy but rather allege he conspired to block Congress from confirming Joe Biden's election and obstructed the vote confirmation by directing his supporters to the Capitol. Furthermore, he is accused of scheming to disrupt the election process and deprive Americans of their right to have their votes counted. Trump referred to the case as a "persecution." His legal team is expected to push for a delayed trial due to the case's complexity, while the prosecution is pressing for a speedy trial. The next hearing is scheduled for August 28.
