The violence in Bengal which erupted since 8th July, the day of polling for panchayat elections, has claimed 48 lives till Wednesday.
On Tuesday night, three people were killed in poll-violence and several police personnel were injured when clashes broke out outside the center where vote counting was going on.
On Wednesday itself, 6 deaths were reported across the state, even as counting of votes for the three-tier panchayat elections continued.
Mamata Banerjee in a statement to reporters claimed that she does not support violence. She further alleged that the opposition planned the attacks, as the violence broke out in not more than 60 polling booths out of 70,000 booths.
Meanwhile, according to a news agency PTI report, BJP slammed TMC for state sponsored violence during the elections.
The Calcutta High Court on Wednesday said that the panchayat elections and declaration of results will be subject to final orders in connection with matters that it is hearing over allegations of electoral malpractices on the day of polling.
CM Mamata Banerjee has announced an ex gratia of two lakh and a job to one family member of the people who died in poll-related violence.
Assam CM, Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed that over 100 people from Bengal have taken refuge in Assam because of the panchayat election violence. They have been provided shelter in relief camps, with food and medical assistance.
