Glasgow headlines 14 June: Tenement residents in Glasgow’s Southside are set for a bin collection transformation
  • 10 months ago
New bin hubs have been installed in the Southside of Glasgow as the council works to improve health and safety for refuse workers and make collections more efficient.

The hubs will end backcourt collections across Pollokshields, while the new bins can take more material than the previous setup.

The bins are to be used by residents living in tenement buildings.

Next, a new wind farm which will help power the production of Irn Bru has officially opened in Cumbernauld.

The 50 turbine farm can now supply the Barr factory with electricity following its six year development.

Energy Minister Gillian Martin welcomed the project, saying it’s ones like these that are key to helping deliver on net zero ambitions and create lasting legacies for communities.

And in other news, Glasgow City Council has said the upcoming UCI Cycling World Championships will offer a ‘once in a generation’ opportunity to boost the sport amongst Glaswegians.

The competition is due to be hosted by the city in early August, with a report on wheeled sports suggesting it offers a chance to create a lasting impact on participation.
