Glasgow headlines 12 May: Southside residents evacuated following gas leak

  • last year
A number of residents in the city’s Southside were evacuated following a gas leak.

The incident occurred in Inverewe Avenue in Darnley - near the M77 - and the street was closed for five hours.

A spokesperson for SGN said the leak was caused by third party damage to a gas pipe.

Next, Glasgow’s culture leader has said that museums will maintain their “world renowned” accredited status despite a significant reduction in the number of conservation staff.

It was earlier revealed that dozens of jobs would be cut in order to save £1.5 million in the museums and collections section run by Glasgow Life.

This will result in change of displays and a drop in the frequency of temporary exhibitions.

And finally, a planning application has been submitted to the local authority for a new McDonald’s drive through restaurant in Larkhall.

The developers are seeking to invest £4 million on the construction of the new facility that they intend to build on Borland Drive.
