Binance Loses $790M Amid Lawsuit
Investors have withdrawn approximately $790 million from Binance and its U.S. affiliate, Binance.US, following the U.S. Security and Exchange Commission's lawsuit against the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange. Binance experienced net outflows of $778.6 million in crypto tokens on the Ethereum blockchain, while Binance.US saw net outflows of $13 million. The SEC lawsuit alleges that Binance used deceptive practices to evade U.S. regulations, including inflating trading volumes, misusing customer funds, and misleading investors. Binance has stated that it has been cooperating with the SEC's investigations and intends to defend its platform vigorously. The SEC's action is a significant step in its broader crackdown on the cryptocurrency industry this year. The news has hurt the crypto market, with Bitcoin falling more than 5% and Binance's BNB cryptocurrency experiencing significant declines.
