Crypto Whale Just Moved $107M Worth Of Ethereum (ETH) Off Binance
  • 2 years ago
An Ethereum whale sent $107,094,567 worth of Ethereum off Binance. The transaction took just 10 minutes. Whales typically send cryptocurrency from exchanges when planning to hold their investments for an extended period of time. Storing large amounts of money on an exchange presents an additional risk of theft, as exchange wallets are the most sought-after target for cryptocurrency hackers. Ethereum's upcoming move to proof of stake may be a factor in this move and others. Among the largest Ethereum whale transactions of this week is one in which 50,000 ETH, worth nearly $160 million, was transferred from the exchange Gemini to an unknown wallet on Tuesday. About an hour later, a separate unknown wallet transferred 43,997 ETH, worth more than $138 million, to a third unknown wallet. The following day, a fourth unknown wallet sent 32,020 ETH, worth more than $97.6 million, to a fifth unknown wallet. According to Glassnode, only 12.21% of the total supply remains liquid across all centralized exchanges. The removal of ETH from an exchange reduces potential sell-side pressure, allowing the price of Ether to increase more easily. Ethereum is down -1% in the past 24 hours.
