Russian Spy Whale
A beluga whale suspected of being a Russian navy spy has been spotted off the coast of Sweden. The whale gained attention in 2019 when it was found wearing a harness off the coast of Norway. Nicknamed Hvaldimir, a play on the Norwegian word for whale and Russian President Vladimir Putin, the whale has been slowly moving down the Norwegian coastline for over three years. Recently, it has picked up speed and reached Sweden. When it was first found, the whale had a harness with markings that suggested the Russian navy may have trained it. Norwegian officials have warned residents to keep their distance from the whale, as it could be a potential danger. Russian officials have not commented on the speculation regarding the whale's role as a spy.
