John Cotton, formerly the cabinet member responsible for social justice, community safety and equalities, is set to replace Ian Ward as leader of the city council, with Sharon Thompson as his deputy. The party selected Cllr Cotton following an interview process with Labour's ruling NEC.

Disorder broke out in Centenary Square in Birmingham city centre last Friday night. Police say two boys, both aged 17, were stabbed during the incident. Officers arrested four suspects. West Midlands Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Three men were arrested and a dispersal order issued for Birmingham city centre to prevent a flash mob event which was being organised on social media. Police stepped in amid fears it could result in disorder like a similar event in August 2022 which attracted 500 people.
