पौष मास के शुक्ल पक्ष की द्वादशी तिथि को कूर्म द्वादशी कहा जाता है। यह दिन भगवान विष्णु को समर्पित है. मान्यता है कि इस दिन विष्णुजी ने कूर्म अर्थात कछुए का अवतार लिया था। इस दिन भगवान विष्णु और उनके कूर्म अवतार की विधिविधान से पूजा करने का विधान है। कूर्म द्वादशी के दिन श्राद्ध और दान देने का भी महत्व बताया गया है। इस बार 3 जनवरी को कूर्म द्वादशी मनाई जा रही है। ज्योतिषाचार्य पंडित सोमेश परसाई बताते हैं कि हिंदू धर्मग्रंथों के अनुसार कूर्म द्वादशी पर विष्णुजी और कछुआ की पूजा करने से सभी मनोरथ पूरे होते हैं।

Dwadashi date of Shukla Paksha of Paush month is called Kurma Dwadashi. This day is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It is believed that on this day Lord Vishnu took the incarnation of Kurma i.e. Tortoise. Astrologer Pandit Somesh Parsai explains that according to Hindu scriptures, all wishes are fulfilled by worshiping Vishnuji and tortoise on Kurma Dwadashi.
