“Gift of Love” is the sparkling new Waterford Crystal design this year for the New Year’s Eve Ball. Workers replace 192 crystals for Times Square 2023. The Gift of Love design is represented by a circle of overlapping hearts entwined together.
Tom Brennan, a master craftsman from Waterford Crystal and Jeffrey Straus, President of Countdown Entertainment were on hand to explain more details about the new design which is part of a 10 year series. A new “Gift” is introduced to the Ball every year.
The Waterford Crystal New Year’s Eve Ball is a geodesic sphere, 12 feet in diameter, and weighs 11,875 pounds. The Ball is covered with a total of 2,688 Waterford Crystal triangles that vary in size, and range in length from 4 3/4 inches to 5 3/4 inches per side.
