Malaysian prime minister dissolves parliament, paving way for snap elections

Malaysian Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced the dissolution of parliament on October 10, 2022, setting the stage for a general election which is expected to be held in November. The United Malays National Organisation (Umno), the nation’s de facto ruling party, had been pushing for a snap election in order to capitalise on strong victories in two state elections over the past year.
