हिंदू धर्म में एकादशी का व्रत महत्वपूर्ण स्थान रखता है। प्रत्येक वर्ष चौबीस एकादशियाँ होती हैं। जब अधिकमास या मलमास आता है तब इनकी संख्या बढ़कर 26 हो जाती है। यह एकादशी जयंती एकादशी भी कहलाती है। इसका यज्ञ करने से वाजपेय यज्ञ का फल मिलता है। पापियों के पाप नाश करने के लिए इससे बढ़कर कोई उपाय नहीं। जो मनुष्य इस एकादशी के दिन मेरी (वामन रूप की) पूजा करता है, उससे तीनों लोक पूज्य होते हैं।

Every year, we celebrate Parivartini Ekadashi on Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha in the month of Bhadrapada. Ancient Puranas explain that on this day, Lord Vishnu takes turns during his sleep in Chaturmas. This Ekadashi is considered very important from the religious point of view. In some places, Parivartini Ekadashi is also considered as the birth anniversary of Lord Vishnu’s Vamana avatar, the fifth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Therefore, the Vamana form of Lord Vishnu is worshipped on this day with full dedication.
