Faceoff over Bengaluru's Idgah Maidan, Hindu groups call for Bandh; Friday, not Sunday off in Jharkhand schools; more

The expansive Idgah Maidan, located in the midst of the Chamarajpet, one of the oldest localities in Bengaluru, has been stuck in a land ownership dispute between the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and the Karnataka State Board of Auqaf for over three weeks now. With no end to the impasse over the embattled playground, Chamarajapet Nagareekara Okkoota Vedike, with an aim to 'save the playground', has called for a Chamarajpet Bandh on July 12.

Students of primary schools in two wards of the Jamtara district, Jharkhand, are being given holidays on Fridays instead of Sundays, citing the Muslim population in such schools.

These schools are being closed under the garb of the notification which allows Urdu schools to remain closed on Friday. A probe in this regard has been ordered by the state government.
