Turkmenistan’s gates of hell may finally close. This vacuum in the desert has been burning continuously in the nation's Karakum desert for five decades since 1971. The President of Turkmenistan asks to close Darvaza Crater on national television. Jahannum ka Darwaza appeared when the ground collapsed during a Soviet gas drilling expedition. The crater is ordered to close although it has become a tourist attraction. Deputy Prime Minister asked to find a solution for extinguishing it as it is affecting the health of people living nearby.
