China’s first wetland protection law goes into effect

China’s first wetland protection law came into effect on June 1, 2022. The measure restricts construction projects and bans harmful activities in key national wetlands, including overgrazing, overharvesting, discharging of waste water and land reclamation. China currently has 64 wetland areas considered to be of international importance, as well as over 1,600 wetland parks.
