Drone Captures Shanghai’s Empty Highways After New Lockdown Rules
  • 2 years ago
This drone footage captures how eerily empty Shanghai's highways have become after China imposed a strict new lockdown Monday to combat a surge in COVID-19 cases.

According to the Associated Press, it is the most strict policy of its kind in China since the country originally sent the city of Wuhan into complete lockdown in spring 2020.

As a city of 26M people, Shanghai will implement its lockdown in two phases. From Monday through Thursday, 11M residents on the city’s east side will be fully locked down for a round of mass testing. Then on Friday, April 1, 14M residents on the west side of the city will experience the same.

According to Reuters, the city recorded 4,400+ new cases of the virus on March 29, the majority of them asymptomatic.
