होलिका दहन से पहले सभी परिवार के सदस्यों को हल्दी का उबटन, सरसों तेल में मिलाकर पूरे बदन पर लगाना चाहिए. फिर सूखने के बाद उसे एक कागज में शरीर से छुड़ाकर जमा कर लेना चाहिए. जिसे होलिका दहन के समय होलिका में डालना चाहिए. मान्यता है कि ऐसा करने से स्वास्थ्य लाभ मिलता है. तन और मन दोनों से मलिनता का त्याग करने का त्योहार है होली. इस लिए जिन लोगों मनमुटाव या मनभेद है वह सब नाराजगी होलिका में मानसिक रूप से अर्पित करके भस्म कर देनी चाहिए. इसी तरह उबटन से शरीर का मैल निकाल कर उसे भी होलिका की अग्नि में भस्म कर दिया जाता है. 5 या 11 गाय के उपले, एक मुट्ठी सरसों के दाने, नारियल का सूखा गोला लें. फिर नारियल के सूखे गोले में जौ, तिल, सरसों का दाना, शक्कर, चावल और घी भर लें. फिर उसे होलिका की जलती हुई अग्नि में प्रवाहित कर देना चाहिए. इससे मां लक्ष्मी का आर्शीवाद प्राप्त होती है और प्रत्येक काम आ रहे विघ्न दूर होते हैं. होलिका दहन होने से पहले या फिर बाद में शाम के वक्त घर में उत्तर दिशा में शुद्ध घी का दीपक जलाएं. ऐसा करने से घर में सुख शांति आती है. वीडियो में देखें जलती होलिका इन लोगों को नहीं देखनी चाहिए, क्या है धार्मिक कारण ?
