U.S. security chief meets Chinese officials to discuss Russia-Ukraine conflict

U.S. President Joe Biden is due to send his national security adviser to Rome tomorrow for talks with a senior Chinese official amid growing concerns about Chinese support for Moscow.

There are growing concerns that China is fueling Russian disinformation about the war in Ukraine and helping Russia evade economic sanctions.

The talks between national security adviser Jack Sullivan and top Chinese foreign policy adviser Yang Jiechi will focus on "working to manage the competition between our two countries and discussing the impact of Russia's war on Ukraine on regional and global security," Emily said in a statement. The White House said Horne National Security Council.

The White House has accused Beijing of spreading false Russian claims that Ukraine operates a chemical and biological weapons laboratory with U.S. support, and U.S. officials say China is trying to cover up a possible Russian military attack on Ukrainians using biological or chemical weapons.

Mr Sullivan told NBC today that when Russia starts accusing other countries of preparing for a biological or chemical attack, "it's a good sign that they're going to do it themselves."

He also said that China and other countries should not try to help Russia evade sanctions, and the United States has made it clear that other countries should not bail out the Russian economy.

"We will make sure that neither China nor anyone else can compensate Russia for these losses," he said.

China is one of the few countries that has avoided criticizing Russia for its invasion of Ukraine. Just weeks before the Russian invasion, China's Xi Jinping hosted Vladimir Putin at the opening ceremony of the Beijing Winter Olympics.

During Putin's visit to China last month, the leaders of the two countries issued a 5,000-word statement declaring that the friendship between the two countries "has no borders".

The Chinese also abstained in a U.N. vote condemning Russia and criticized economic sanctions on Moscow.

Chinese officials also said Washington could not complain about Russia's actions because the United States invaded Iraq under false pretenses.
