India reports 90,928 Covid cases, 56% higher than yesterday

The exponential rise in daily Covid-19 cases continues as India reported 90,928 fresh infections in the last 24 hours, 56 per cent higher than the previous day’s 58,097 cases. The country has 2,630 cases of the Omicron variant -- the most in Maharashtra with 797 cases, followed by Delhi with 465 cases. On Wednesday, the Centre confirmed the first Omicron-related death in the country — a 74-year-old man with comorbidities, who succumbed to the virus last week in Rajasthan’s Udaipur.
